Serving With HumilitySam ‘the people’s man’ Condor is essentially a creature and servant of the Labour Movement and is listed among the able and beloved Leaders of the organisation. He was identified and acknowledged as such, very early, by the late Premier and first national hero the Honorable Robert Llewellyn Bradshaw.
True to his tag line ‘The best by test’ Sam has withstood the test of time. Throughout his political career, both as a Member of Parliament for the past twenty years and as the Deputy Prime Minister for the past fourteen years, he has served in almost all Government Ministries and has done so with humility and success.
From humble beginnings, Sam was able to pull himself up by his own boot-straps, using education as a vehicle in his personal and professional development. Today, a social scientist, with a BA (Hons. Degree in Economics), he has remained very amicable and approachable. Small wonder then that Sam is so passionate about education he believes that his stewardship as the Minister of Education, in his present portfolio, constitutes one of his proudest contributions as a member of the Labour Government.
He has recently tabled in Parliament, a White Paper on a new strategy for education development, spanning the next decade. This document identifies strategies to deal with the emerging challenges facing the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis and the young people in particular. His record of service in the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Caricom Affairs, Youth and Sports & Community Development from 1995 to 2000 was also exemplary. Sam emerged as Regional spokesman and lead on issues relative to the challenges of Trade Liberalisation and Globalisation in the context of Caribbean Member States.
Another highlight of his stewardship is his work in the Ministry of Sports. An avid sportsman himself, Sam is proud that his emphasis on capacity building and the assignment of officers to each sporting discipline has resulted in the expansion and strengthening of the department and of sports in general.
When elected again, Sam will continue to pursue and promote the development of the young people in particular, through academic, vocational and skills education. He will also oversee the rolling out of sporting infrastructure in his constituency.
Housing development, land distribution, entrepreneurship and other employment opportunities form part of his strategy moving forwarding in a new term.
