Emphasis and Capabilities of Health Care System:
- Disease prevention, addressing chronic non-communicable diseases and the provision of cutting edge-services are priorities for Labour.
- J N France is expanding its dialysis services even further - moving toward the second modality of dialysis to offer hemo-dialysis to the public.
- With the help of NGO’s Labour has established ophthalmology and CT Scan units at JN France Hospital.
- With the help of the Republic of China on Taiwan, Labour established an emergency medical services unit. There is now a team of 32 medical emergency technicians, specially trained to begin saving lives while patients are traveling in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
Training and Technology:
- Doctors, nurses, medical technologists, and radiographers have undergone extensive training.
- The Labour Government has invested heavily in technology for the laboratory and the operating theatre at JN France Hospital as well as the accident and emergency services.
- Large sums have also been invested in upgrading the x-ray and pathology labs.
Provision of New Health Care Facilities:
- Labour has built health centres in St. Peters, Cayon, Molyneux, Saddlers, Dieppe Bay, St. Pauls and New Town.
- Labour has rebuilt and expanded the J N France Hospital and rebuilt the Pogson Hospital.
- By 2011, the expansion of the Molyneux Health Centre will be complete.
Labour’s Health Care Strategic Thrust:
- Labour’s health policy is guided by a National Strategic Plan that encourages the public to be involved in the preservation of their own health through leading healthier lifestyles.
- Labour remains deeply committed to creating a National Health Insurance Plan to expand the health care options available to the people of St. Kitts & Nevis - at affordable rates and outside of the federation if necessary.
